Moving Meditation for Vitality

Summary: Moving meditation is not exactly what one thinks about when thinking of meditation, but boy does it work. Read on and find out how to add a powerful meditation to your daily routine

T
oday I want to talk a little about a way to meditate that most people don’t ever consider. That is a moving meditation.

Have you heard of Tai Chi or Qi Gong? Well those are formalized moving meditations. While I don’t think that moving meditation is a replacement for the more common sitting meditation, it is a vital part of a healthly lifestyle. These moving meditations have survived through thousands of years so there must be something to them!

Now, you certainly could take some time and learn Tai Chi or Qi Gong, but you don’t have to do that to get the benefit of a moving meditation.

So what exactly is moving meditation. It is simply a deep focus while you are moving. Many athletes do this without even knowing it. It is refered to as being in the zone.

For example when you take a walk, focus on your breath. Breathe in to a 5 count and slowly exhale. Try to quiet your mind, be in the now. You are walking, breathing, thanking the universe for the abundance it provides. Feel each step. Be aware of your body and its movement, your feet on the ground, the air flowing by your body.

I know it seems simple and it is, but most of us have a hard time focusing on anything let alone the present. Thoughts of the past and the future flood our minds clouding the fact that all there really is…IS NOW!

The true goal of meditation is to learn to be in the now. To stop thinking all the time.

By creating this focused attention while walking or performing Qi Gong or other activity, you are slowing and balancing your brainwaves. By the way, that is a good thing.

Your homework is then this, take a walk today and focus your mind on the now, the walking, the breathing, your gratitude for this moment in time.
