Today was not what I had planned it to be. My wife and I were going to go to a parenting class and then spend the rest of the day relaxing.
Instead we spent the day in the hospital. My wife and daughter are still there.
My daughter had severe abdominal pain through the night Friday and was still in pain Saturday morning. So we set off to the pediatrician’s office.
Long story short, she had appendicitis and had to have surgey today.
The reason I’m writing to you is because this experience really made me think.
It’s scary when your child has to have surgery, but what I was really thinking was how gratful I AM (not was).
I am grateful that I live in a time and place where something so life threatening is reduced to an hour in surgey and a day in the hospital.
I want you to do what I am doing now. I’m being grateful for everything I have. My family, my friends, the food on my table, my life.
While things are never perfect, there is always something to be grateful for and if you focus on that you win. Let me tell you what you win. You win happiness. What else could anyone want? I can tell you that a million dollars in my bank account would mean nothing without my family.
I’m sorry if this email is a bit disjointed, but I wanted to get a message across to you. You are special and have many things to be grateful for.
So if you are in a bad place today, focus your thoughts on the good things that you DO have.
If you can’t think of anything, then know that I’m thinking about you and I KNOW you are special.
I am grateful that you are here.
Be Well,
Mark McCoid
